Since I have an obsession with men’s fashion, I often flip through the pages of GQ and Esquire and fantasize about putting something on my boyfriend’s perfectly defined 6-foot-3 frame other than a Polo shirt and jeans. Don’t get me wrong, he’s an amazing dresser on his own. His style is classic American–khaki pants, tailored button-down shirts and shiny Cole Haan dress shoes. He’s fashionable, but doesn’t take any risks with his wardrobe. After talking to my female friends about this, it turns out there are secret outfits they wish their boyfriends would wear too. Here is my wish list for 2011 if I could turn Greg Henry into a living paper doll.
1. A puffy vest; $24 at Landsend.com. Yeah, yeah, I know it’s not too practical for hot and sweaty South Florida. But when a gal sees a guy in a puffy vest, she can’t help but want to run up and hug him. What he would say if I tried to make him wear it: “I feel like I’m wearing a parachute.”
2. A fedora; $29.50 at Gap.com. He would look amazing in this hat because his foundation is a timeless “Mad Men” style. What he would say if I tried to make him wear it: “Babe, I don’t really think it’s me. Plus, it’s messing up my hair.”
3. A cardigan; $59.59 at Gap.com. No woman can resist a man in a cardigan. It appeals to us because we all had a secret crush on a nerdy, bookish fellow at one point and were too superficial to approach him. Besides in 2011, geeks are the new gangstas. What he would say if I tried to make him wear it: “Thanks babe, but I’m good. Don’t need any more sweaters.”
4. Tailored Moleskin Military Blazer; $159.99 at Bananarepublic.com. This jacket is ideal because it’s that piece that’s in between casual and formal. I love the cardigan underneath and plaid collared shirt beneath that because it gives the look nice texture and dimension. Layers are amazing on men because it’s symbolic of the armor they used to wear as knights. What he would say if I tried to make him wear it: “Babe, I think I have too many shirts on.”
5. Gucci Driver Loafers; $395 at Saksfifthavenue.com. Every man needs a classy pair of loafers in his closet. I love this pair because it has the Gucci logo and brings a lot of trend appeal to a classic shoe. Note to men: [If you wear these shoes in Boca Raton, Wellington or Miami Beach, these shoes will attract as many women to you as a puppy on Lincoln Road. Women will recognize the logo and immediately flock to the one guy in the room who is speaking their language, which consists of only one letter--"G"]. What he would say if I tried to make him wear it: “Aren’t these girl shoes? I’m pretty sure these are for you babe.”
If you have comments on stuff you wish your boyfriend would wear, please feel free to share ‘em here. Thanks!
